Convocation FAQs

Q: What is a convocation? I thought it was "graduation"?

A: Convocation is a formal ceremony at a college or university. Graduation is the receiving of the degree.

Q: Do students need tickets for the ceremony?

A: No, students in regalia (cap/gown) do not need tickets. They will be escorted into the Great Hall and will sit in the center section. All other guests are required to have tickets.

Q: Will our names be called out?

A: Yes, with your help before the ceremony, we will try and pronounce your name accurately.

Q: Where is Foellinger Great Hall?

A: It is the main theater in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. IT IS NOT FOELLINGER AUDITORIUM ON THE QUAD.


Psychology Convocation Ceremony

500 South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana

The ceremony recognizes December 2012, May 2013, and August 2013 graduates. It will include hooding candidates for the Ph.D. degree and calling all participating graduates to the platform in recognition of their academic achievement. Photographs will be taken of candidates as they receive their diploma covers and cross the stage. The ceremony lasts for 90 minutes.

Registration and Ticket Distribution

Undergraduate students: Due to seating limitations in the Foellinger Great Hall of the Krannert Center, guest ticket distribution will be limited to 4 tickets.

Graduate students: Please use the on-line registration to indicate your faculty advisor, your dissertation title, and number of guest tickets.

Please use the Convocation registration site to indicate your participation in the 2013 Psychology Convocation Ceremony.

Ticket Distribution

Registered participants may pick up their tickets (max. 4) in Room 10 Psychology Building beginning Tuesday, April 30 through Friday, May 3.

**Krannert Center for the Performing Arts requires all guests to have tickets

Cap and Gown

All graduates and degree candidates participating in commencement ceremonies are required to wear appropriate academic attire. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign graduates wear custom regalia designed specifically for the campus. Academic attire consists of a blue mortarboard, blue gown and, in the case of a graduate degree, a hood. Please order/rent your academic regalia by using the on-line Herff-Jones website.

Commemorative T-Shirt Giveaway

Graduating Seniors: No orders can be placed at this time. Additional t-shirts will be available from April April 30 - May 3 in Room 9, Psychology Building. No size guarantees.

Photographs

Three photographs will be taken during the ceremony by GradImages.

Sign Language Interpreter

Candidates for graduation who require a sign language interpreter should notify our office by April 16 so that we may make arrangements.
