Human Subjects Committee Guidelines

  • Guidelines for Reviewing Research Protocols
    After your study is approved by the IRB, it must go through a second review by the Human Subjects Committee before it may be run using the Subject Pool. Here are the guidelines that the HSC members use when reviewing your study. Includes details about consent and debriefing forms, and procedures. Updated 3/19/10.

Request Forms

  • Request for allocation of subject hours using the Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool. [Web form]
    To use the Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool, you must first request an allocation of subject hours. To do that, fill out this subject request form. Completed subject hour requests are due before 5PM two days before the first day of classes. Late submissions are not accepted.
  • Request to activate a study using the Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool. [Web form]
    Once you have received your semester subject allocation, you can submit a request to activate a study and allocate subject hours to it. See the instructions and FAQ available from the Course Credit Subject Pool page for more details.
  • Request to activate a study using the Psychology Paid Subject Pool. [Word file]
    Submit this form to psych-subjects@illinois.edu. See the instructions and FAQ available from the Paid Subject Pool page for more details.
  • Request for paid subjects. [Word file]
    If you want to post a notice in the elevators to find subjects to be paid participants in your experiment, fill out this notice describing the experiment and bring it either to Carleen McCormick in Room 321 or to Terry Davis in Room 315 to have it approved and posted.

Consent Forms - the consent forms templates are being updated to reflect the new required wording. We hope to have new versions available soon. Please use the most recently approved consent forms for your study.

  • Consent Form Template - Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool use for single session, 1-hour studies.
    You may download and modify this consent form template for submission to the IRB for single-session, 1-hour studies involving Psychology Subject Pool participants. The protected (uneditable) parts of this form have been pre-approved by the IRB. Please note: This template is intended for laboratory research involving anonymous participation. It is not suitable for studies involving more than minimal risk, studies involving children or other vulnerable populations, etc.
  • Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool - Early Withdrawal Form. [Word file]
    You must provide this form to participants who decide to withdraw from a study after having completed at least 50 minutes of participation, so they can receive pro-rated credit for their participation. It is Departmental Policy that they receive 1 credit hour for every 50-minute segment that they have completed. They should submit the completed and signed form to 305 Psychology.
  • Consent Form Template - Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool use for single-session, multi-hour studies.
    You may download and modify this consent form template for submission to the IRB for Psychology Subject Pool participants in studies that take place in a single session but last longer than 50 minutes (multiple credits, one-session studies). Studies of this length require that you make available the Early Withdrawal Form (above) to students withdrawing for any reason after completing at least 50 minutes. The protected (uneditable) parts of this form have been pre-approved by the IRB. Please note: This template is intended for laboratory research involving anonymous participation. It is not suitable for studies involving more than minimal risk, studies involving children or other vulnerable populations, etc.Updated 3/29/10.
  • Consent form template - Psychology Course Credit Subject Pool use for multiple-session studies.
    You may download and modify this consent form template for submission to the IRB for Psychology Subject Pool participants in studies with multiple sessions. Multiple-session studies require that you make available the Early Withdrawal Form (above) to students withdrawing for any reason after completing at least 50 minutes. Staff Spotlight

Brenda ReinholdBrenda Reinhold

Brenda joined our Business Office team in August as a procurement specialist. She brings with her a wealth of procurement experience on campus and will be responsible for the oversight of all purchase related activities for the department. Services Information

Funding

For Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters, students may apply for an Alumni Advisory Board Award of up to $500. Faculty may apply for a Lanier Award of up to $750. These funds may be used for any research-related activity, e.g., supplies, software, equipment, printing, subject payments, travel, etc. Requests should be submitted to the Business Office.
