Mabel Kirkpatrick Hohenboken Teaching Enhancement Award
The Hohenboken Award was established by Mrs. Mabel Hohenboken as a means to reward faculty members in Psychology who have made a particularly distinguished contribution as teachers. The Award provides a cash prize of $1,000.00. The Awardee's name is inscribed on an honor roll located on the third floor of the Psychology Building.
Eligibility
All faculty and instructors with at least a 50% appointment in the Department of Psychology who have served as a teacher in graduate or undergraduate courses in Psychology are eligible for the Hohenboken Award.

GSO Instructional Award for Excellence in Teaching & Advising
This award is given annually to the department faculty member who is voted by graduate students to have shown the greatest commitment to graduate teaching. Given the broad scope of graduate education, "teaching" is considered to include classroom teaching, mentoring, official advising, etc. The Awardee's name is inscribed on an honor roll located on the third floor of the Psychology Building.
Eligibility
Any tenured, or tenure-track, faculty member in the Department of Psychology who has served as a teacher in graduate courses in Psychology.

Psi Chi Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award
The winner of this award is determined by popular vote of Psi Chi and UPA members. The award is intended to recognize a professor at the university who has demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment of undergraduate education. Criteria include effectiveness of teaching, knowledge of subject matter, ability to relate well with and devote time to undergraduate students. The Awardee's name is inscribed on an honor roll located on the third floor of the Psychology Building.
Eligibility
Any tenured, or tenure-track, faculty member in the Department of Psychology or Department of Educational Psychology who has served as a teacher in undergraduate courses in Psychology.

Nancy Hirschberg Memorial Award
Nancy Hirschberg was a faculty member of the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1964 until 1976, when she joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Shortly after her death in February 1979, her friends and colleagues at both campuses established the Nancy Hirschberg Memorial Fund to "create a living remembrance ... with the hope that her memory will serve to encourage others to attain their full potential."
The award consists of a cash prize, inscription of the winner's name on a plaque displayed in the Department of Psychology, and the opportunity to present his or her work at a ceremony scheduled in the spring.
Eligibility
The Nancy Hirschberg Memorial Award is presented each year to a graduate student in the Department of Psychology, who, during that year, has performed outstanding original research or scholarship in areas related to Dr. Hirschberg's interests, including individual differences, personality, human judgment, and multivariate analysis. Other research or scholarship related to these areas by content or methodology may also be appropriate for the award competition. Graduate students from all divisions of the Department of Psychology are welcome to submit materials for this competition.

The Jeffrey Tanaka Memorial Award For Graduate Students in Psychology and Educational Psychology
Dr. Jeffrey Tanaka was a member of the Departments of Psychology and Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1990 until 1992. He was a fellow of the American Psychological Association and of the American Psychological Society and was elected to the prestigious Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology. At UIUC he was recognized as a University Scholar and a College of Education Scholar. After his untimely death in November 1992, his friends and colleagues created a fund to establish the Jeffrey Tanaka Memorial Award, presented each year to a graduate student studying quantitative psychology or personality psychology.
The award alternates yearly between the Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Educational Psychology in the College of Education. The award recognizes outstanding original research or scholarship in areas related to Dr. Tanaka's interests in quantitative psychology and personality psychology.
The award consists of a cash prize and inscription of the recipient's name on a plaque displayed in the Department of Psychology. The recipient is given the opportunity to present his or her work at a ceremony scheduled in the spring.
Eligibility
The recipient of the award is chosen by a faculty committee (from the Departments of Psychology and Educational Psychology) on the basis of original work authored or co-authored by a full-time pre-doctoral graduate student and completed during the three preceding years. This work may be (but is not restricted to) a master's thesis, a research report, or a published article, but may not be a doctoral thesis.
